Keratin Questions

What is keratin?

Keratin is fibrous structural protein of hair, nails, horn,
hoofs, wool, feathers, and of the epithelial cells in the outermost layers of
the skin. Keratin serves important structural and protective functions,
particularly in the epithelium. Some keratins have also been found to regulate
key cellular activities, such as cell growth and protein synthesis.

What is alpha keratin and beta keratin?

Keratin proteins can be subdivided into alpha-keratins and beta-keratins, on the basis of their secondary structure (the geometry of their polypeptide chains, which is influenced by hydrogen bonding).

Alpha-keratins, which are found in the hair, the skin, and the wool of mammals, are primarily fibrous and helical in structure. Through a unique manufacturing process, Alpha-keratins can be made edible.

By contrast, beta-keratins, which occur in birds and reptiles, consist of parallel sheets of polypeptide chains. These can only be used for topical applications such as shampoos and salon treatments.

What is edible keratin?

Similar to Collagen, Keratin is a structural protein and essential constituent for healthy skin, hair and nails. Collagen is the dietary fuel providing correctly structured amino acids. Edible Keratin is the spark plug for this fuel, converting dietary collagen to the correct forms of collagen to enhance your inner beauty regime.

Edible Keratin is digestible and functional. It works synergistically with dietary collagen to boost the body’s ability to produce the right structural proteins to repair wrinkles and strengthen hair follicles and nails. This is achieved by activating skin cells that have the right nutritional input to specifically make collagen IV and collagen VII, the binding proteins that join the dermal and epidermal layers essential for smooth, wrinkle free skin as well as anchoring hair follicles into the scalp.

Is Keratin a protein?

Digestible Functional Keratin is pure keratin protein, the same protein that nails are made from. Common nutrition and supplements products, such as collagen has 0g protein/100g product, whey (2.1g/100g) or soy (1.1g/100g) have very low cystine contents when compared to keratin (7-12g/100g).

Advantages of Keratin protein?

It promotes wrinkle reduction by building the dermal
epidermal junction; Stronger hair follicles by promoting anchoring of follicles in the scalp; and Healthy nail growth by providing the right amino acid

It reduces Ageing stresses to hair, skin and nail tissue; Radical induced damage; and Inflammation to skin.

As a result of the highest natural abundance of sulphur amino acids Digestible Functional Keratin has also been shown to: Upregulate glutathione synthesis boosting antioxidant defence mechanisms, and Promote
taurine synthesis supplementing anti-inflammatory response.

What is Cysteine?

Cysteine is essential for glutathione production, cysteine rich supplements can boost glutathione to prevent oxidative stress.

What is Glutathione?  Glutathione
is the master antioxidant, protecting skin and hair from oxidative stress.

What role Keratin plays in body’s anti-inflammation response?

Ingestions study shows Functional Digestible Keratin boosts
cysteine metabolism, boosting glutathione synthesis, increasing liver glutathione and taurine levels and boosting endogenous antioxidant and anti-inflammatory defence.

Collagen Questions

What is collagen?

Collagen is the most abundant protein in our bodies, making
up about 90% of our total protein. It’s the major component of connective tissues in tendons, ligaments, skin and muscles, so you can think of it as the basic building block of your entire body.

Why is our collagen, collagen 2.0?

Collagen 2.0 is the next and bettered version of collagen.

Our marine collagen peptides are super tiny (2kDa) and come
in a micro granulated form, which makes it easy dispersible, has low density, has very low viscosity, and has excellent organoleptic properties (neutral taste and odour, and is crystal clear). We have not compromised on the quality of the collagen we procured. It comes from a 175 year old organisation based in
France which is the world’s first marine collagen producer to obtain ‘Friend of the Sea Sustainability Certification’. Nothing but the best is contained in collagen products.

We further enhance the absorption of the collagen in your body by formulating them with two forms of vitamin C (a co-factor for the absorption of collagen) – sodium ascorbate and ascorbic acid.

The best secret, though, is the formulation of our collagen
with digestible functional keratin (yes, edible keratin is now available!), ethically and sustainably sourced from New Zealand’s finest wool. Keratin puts the right collagen in the right place.

Why do we need to supplement with collagen?

While our bodies naturally produce collagen and keratin, from the age of 25 they start producing less.  Evidenced by reduced skin elasticity, brittle nails, hair shedding,
weakening muscles and joint pain. Our supplements help your body to replenish collagen in the right places of your body to reduce the signs of aging.

What is the recommended serving size?

 - Stop the Clock Kerbicol capsules - 2 capsules a day

 - Beauty Standard Unflavoured Marine Collagen Peptides  -
one scoop (10 grams) or two teaspoons

 - Vanilla Beauty Flavoured Marine Collagen Peptides - one heaped scoop (12 grams) or two heaped teaspoons"

Can I use your Marine Collagen products if I have a seafood / shellfish allergy?

No. Marine Collagen peptides are derived from fish skin.

What is the difference between Marine and Bovine and Porcine Collagen?

Marine collagen peptides have superior bioavailability, this
is due to  smaller particle size than bovine and porcine. Marine collagen peptides get up to 1,5 times easier absorbed by your body.

What is Hydrolysed collagen?

Hydrolysed collagen means that the collagen is broken into smaller compounds more easily absorbed and utilized in your body.
